king Abdullah of Saudi Arabia revoked a punishment of 10 lashes to a woman for driving!

King Abdullah of Saudi Arabia
“Thank God, the lashing of Shaima is cancelled. Thanks to our beloved King. I’m sure all Saudi women will be so happy, I know I am.” this is a tweet from princess Ameerah wife of billionaire investor Alwaleed Talal after the king of Saudi Arabia revoked a punishment of 10 lashes to Shaima (a Saudi Woman) just for driving. In Saudi Arabia women have long been denied basic rights like driving and voting.

The king revoked the decision to lash Shaima after strong opposition from princess Ameerah's husband, Alwaleed. He opposed the decision by a  court to lash a woman 10 times as punishment for driving-just two days after Saudi king Abdullah announced that women in his country will be allowed to vote and run for some political office.

“This was a barbaric and inhuman decision to lash a Saudi lady just for driving,” Alwaleed said. “The reform path moves on, regardless of some voices here and there,” he added.

I can’t believe one of the richest countries in the world is still punishing women for driving, I mean what is the offence! I am glad women in Saudi Arabia will be able to drive and vote very soon.
